Vocabulary: Fall #1

Expository- to expound, set forth, or explain
I hope that one day we can get an expository answer to what the meaning of life is.

Composition- the act of combining parts or elements to form a whole
After reading the paper the teacher was impressed, he said that it had great composition.

Assumage- to make milder or less severe
A great way to assumage the pain, you should maybe take advil.

Decadence- the act of falling into an inferior condition or state
As time goes on devices such as the iphone 3g become a decadence.

Hackneyed- made commonplace or trite
It's become hackneyed for seagulls to be around people who are eating.

Coalition- a combination or alliance, especially a temporary one between persons
The hero and villain formed a coalition to stop a common problem.

Transcend- to rise above
Great athletes try to transcend the competition to become the best.

Meritorious- deserving praise
The student received meritorious honors after his performance.

Lurid- gruesome
I will never watch the conjouring, I think scary movies are lurid.

Petulant- moved to or showing sudden, impatient irritation
The little kid was going through his terrible 2's. I'm becoming more and more petulant but I try not to show.
